- Question of the Week -

"If you could develop any comic into film, tv, computer game, or even a radio broadcast, what would it be and why?"

Send in your comic questions to our panel at questions@comiccovers.net today!

Ron - (a.k.a. Rocket2600)

If it could be done with a super good comic to script,
Watchmen could be a classic comic movie.

I still want to see a Shi (Crusade Comics) movie with Tia Carrere.
This was talked about in the late '90's but never came to be.

There are some others, but most times they aren't that well made turning them into movies, video games and such. Did we really need a Generation X, or Nick Fury- Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Movie??

Ron has been collecting comics since 1985. His collection has grown as in 2001 he decided to keep every comic issue he could get his hands on. His main interests include Marvel, DC, bad/good girl, and the "dead universes" from the 1980's & 1990's.

Karen - (a.k.a. klindsay)

This question was really tough for me! I have this love/hate thing with comics being adapted into other formats. I'd love to see a story I really like brought to life, but if they mess it up too much it becomes painful and changes my perspective of the story. I feel the same about mainstream books adapted to other media as well. But here's my answer to your question.

I'm gonna go with mass media for the answer. I don't play comic-related video games, and since comics are a visual thing to me, I'd pass over the radio broadcast as well.

Good stories that would make good movies? I think "Wanted" would be an easy move to the screen. It would be good in a two-hour format. I also think that "Identity Crisis" would be a good story, but not feasible considering the amount of heroes that would have to appear in it. I've said for a long time that I'd love to see "Watchmen" finally make it to live action, but I'd prefer a 12 part mini-series over a two hour film. Something I'd have mixed feelings about... "Sandman". I'd love to see a film based on the Endless characters, but if done wrong, I'd be angry. If Neil writes it and gives the stamp of approval, it could be very entertaining.

Karen has been interested in comics since dinosaurs roamed the earth. She loves all genres including Horror, Superhero, Mythology, and Grant Morrison.

Sean - (a.k.a. thespectre)

The Spectre of course, Why the magnatude of the this super hero is huge. his power is unlimited and judgement is absolute. Could be like a crime drama, or showing people that crime does not pay. Vengence is the spectre.

Sean has been collecting off and on for 15 years, it was not untill he got married that he really found some one to share the hobby with and go all out collecting. He was a Marvel collector only but now is into all comic vendors. "I love to read and that's what's important."

Jeremiah - (a.k.a. Gambit80)

I think "Fell" by Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith would make a great film. It would have appeal not just within the comic community but also in the mainstream. It's not a superhero comic - but more of a noir-style work.

People enjoy a good mystery, though the show "Law & Order" may have run crime drama into the ground. Each of the cases that Detective Fell deals with are unique and actually based on events that occurred in the "real world" which makes them even more bizarre.

If it was live-action, it would be difficult to find someone who can recreate Ben Templesmith's visual conception of Snowtown and of the characters. Most directors nowadays go for glitz and glamour over actual substance. However, Christopher Nolan and David Goyer could probably help bring it to film, with Ellis adapting the work (either previously published or original for the movie).

Jeremiah has been collecting comics since 1991 with a focus on X-Men, Sin City, the works of Frank Cho and studying the history of the comic art medium.

Clyf - (a.k.a. Clyfft)

For me it would be Fables. The story has kept my attention since the first issue that I picked up. It would also appeal to a wide range of people since it involves story book characters that everyone has grown up with. It could be animation and I would enjoy it, but I think the best medium would be live action/CGI. They have made great advances in the past few years with CGI effects that make this a viable option to bring Fables to life on TV (can reach a much wider audience this way).

Clyf started collecting in 1989. His interests mainly include Spider-Man, Batman and the X-Men. His collection is 5,900 strong and growing.

David - (a.k.a. Johnturned51)

Thats actually kinda hard and requires me to look through my collection, but I'll answer for each of those.

Film: Silver Surfer. A Solo Film, not taking place on earth. He's probally my Fav hero and i can think of enough ideas to do great movies with him.

TV: DMZ, I know its still a rather new comic, but its great and would work perfectly in as a serial show.

Game: Hard, there are already great comic based games, but I'd have to say an action/adventure Iron Man game ala devil may cry style would be sweet.

Radio Broadcast: Transmetropolitan. Simply cause I love the social-fiction in this and it would probally be the best comic to transfer into radio. They could just do it as a Spider Radio Show.

David came back to the comic medium in 2003, with emphasis on Marvel and creator books falling into the Sci-Fi, and Fantasy genres.

Charles - (a.k.a. CKillian)

I personally would love to see Megacity 909 put into a movie. I really enjoyed the storyline and think it would translate well onto the silverscreen. It would appeal to the same people who enjoyed the movies like Resident Evil. There is a diverse enough cast of charaters that would bring a good variety to the movie, while providing enough action even for the Rambo types. Cheers!

Charles has been collecting comics on and off for over 15 years. His interests lie in the artwork of the comic and is big on variants as long as the cover is cool. His tastes for comics vary as he find himself picking up comics just because the cover caught his eye. "Collect what you like, and you cant go wrong is my motto for collecting. Slabbing is a no-no in my opinion and grading is for investors not collectors."
